The following is a letter to the editor of the Mountain News, penned by our President Hugh A. Bialecki, expressing SOFA’s stance on the development and return of Skypark at Santa’s Village.
The Save Our Forest Association (SOFA) is pleased to be supporting SkyPark at Santa’s Village Project Manager Bill Johnson in reviewing the environmental and logistical challenges faced in reestablishing this important part of our history in the San Bernardino Mountains.
Creating a economically and environmentally sustainable project is a significant challenge given the more recent history of timber processing and the damage incurred, as well as the many years that have passed since Santa’s Village was operational.
We welcome the concept of rebuilding the park to promote outdoor activities for visitors of all ages, strengthening our local economy and maintaining our mountain quality of life. This project may also have synergistic opportunities with the Rim of the World Rec and Park District’s recently awarded Caltrans Active Transportation Plan Grant promoting non-motorized transportation (bicycle, hiking and equestrian), relaxation and recreation in our mountain communities.

We hope this clears the air and dispels any notion to the contrary of where SOFA officially stands on this important issue.
